Humidity...crucial or not?

Post by J-Netty » Mon Aug 25, 2014 8:07 am

I'm getting ready to set up a large flight cage in my home and I've purchased just about everything I need, but I have one question. In the books I've read, many mention that particular birds prefer a specific percentage of humidity. I believe my home has a normal amount of humidity, but doesn anyone know if this is an absolute MUST HAVE? If so, how does everyone achieve the optimum level of humidity? Is it necessary to run a humidifier or are there other ways of going about this?

Gouldians should have around 50% or more humidity to help the chicks hatch. If you put a water dish in the cage they pair can regulate the humidity themselves by taking baths and bringing that moisture into the nestbox.

Okay, thanks! I was really wanting to know how people create humidity in their indoor aviaries. So I don't have to by a humidifier or anything like that, just keep water (for bathing) in the cage?
