I also have a Prevue F040 Large Flight Cage. My finches mostly stay in top half part & bottom half is useless. I would definitely divide it in to two parts using vinyl like Dolly did with her flight cage. :D

Jason,

In my cage I have always put the paper on top of the grate, it made it easier. Then at paper change time, I would just roll up the soiled newspaper, and lay down clean. No poop on grate, means no scrubbing it off, just made things a little simpler, but now with the double flight, they are flying around so much, they fan the hulls onto the floor when flying around. I guess, I will try to just put paper under grate, and scrub poop at cleaning time. I would much rather scrub the poop of the grate, than vacuum as I pass by.

Rcirmele,

What is it that you are using as a guard in the center of your flight to take up that gap space in the grates? I need to find something like that, I am afraid, they may get caught up in the gap while on the bottom of their cage. I decided to put newspaper under my grates.

Tammie,

Here's an old post that shows how I cut it to fit.

You're quite welcome. I didn't think about it from a bird safety point of view (but should have). I was more concerned with poop and seed falling down in the gap.

Chirp, I think you're talking to me. There are 2 makers of double flight finch cages. HQ and A&E. They are both comparable. I have the HQ. Here's a link to it:

It is located near a window, but the glass will block quite a bit of the UV light.

I cut a long round wood perch to fit the gap in my flight cage. i have tried paper on top of the grate with sides, thinking the seeds would stay in the cage. that wasn't working, so now I'm back to paper in the bottom tray but i have news paper strips (3-4" high) taped outside of the cage toward the bottom. There's barely anything on the floor now.
