debbie276 -- Lovely set-up!
That's exactly what the set-up was like for the gouldians that I got from a gentleman in Orlando. He had it divided in two sides. Each with an indoor section and a screened outdoor area. One side for girls, one side for boys and a middle compartment indoors for youngsters.
It made me drool! LOL

My neighbor has a portion of her lanai sectioned off for the birds and she puts one of those propane (I think?) powered patio heaters.
Like this:

It's not inside the birds' area; it's just outside so they can't contact it.
(If you're having a hard time envisioning it, the aviary is like a screened-box within a screened in patio. So the heater is in the screened-in patio, but just outside the box with all the birds.)

She uses it on the cold nights (most nights during the winter.)
Humum to....
13 Zebra Finches....and 2 squeeps!
3 Society Finches
6 Gouldians
1 Weaver
1 Pintail Whydah
2 Cockatiels
2 Parakeets

....along with 1 MinPin, 1 Pug, 1 JRT, 1 Yorkie, 2 Chihuahuas and 15 cats.

The radiator heater worked well for me keeping the temps in the 50's in the dead of winter at a very low setting. I have a well insulated building with a small door open at all time though, not exactly sure of your set up.
Found a nice wireless thermometer at Lowes like the one you suggested and tried it out last night. LOVE IT!!! I can sit her and read finch forum and monitor the temp in the aviary and don't have to lift a finger!!! Thank you for a great suggestion~ =D> =D> =D>
