Need to liven up new cage -- updated with pics

I have to agree with poohbear. But some like the toys for color..etc... so as he said to each his own.

I love the cage! If my birds were in a cage I would want want just like that. A great home for a few birds.!

I love this cage! I did a thread called Making the HQ Single Flight Better, it's on page 2 under Housing. Many of the tips on the single apply to the double as well. I HATE grates, so I switch the grate and tray positions, tell how to do that in the thread. Seed hoppers work very well in this cage.

Franny, I was looking at my 90 gallon aquarium today and realised I need to get another light and put it on the cage. Lowes near me sells full spectrum bulbs by sylvania (the ones in the orange package) that have fairly good ratings on them.

Well see with the toys, I'm sure the birds will teach me what they like as long as I pay attention.

Sally, I like your idea of having the tray on top. In my cockatiel cage, I put a towel down and put paper towels on that. We change the paper towels every day, the towel underneath every week. This makes a nice place for her to walk around on.

But with the Zebs, I'm worried that anything they can get their hands on (metaphorically speaking) they will turn into a nest.

I like the cage now - I think it's great and I do like the toys in the cage - gives the birds something to do.

Probably are (tugging at nesting material), but it does give them something to do. Anything that keeps the animal occupied and isn't harming them is just another form of enrichment....

My gouldians don't seem to "play", although they do investigate small toys, but the little cordon blue rescue seems to purposefully jump onto the swing and off again to make it jingle. Over and over

. (If the swing is occupied, she just goes for the wire basket, which also has a tiny bell on it).

I am also proud of her for teaching my gouldians to bathe. They never did before, but she did from day one. As soon as she was out of quarantine and into their cage, they all gradually started doing it.

Teacher birds are great! I am always amazed when people say their goudlians don't get into the water. Mine love it. They hop in and get soaked with all the other birds.

As far as toys..... gouldians I find to be VERY nosey little birds. They like to check out everything. I don't think they are trying to get the toys for nestling materials when they pull on them always.

My juvies are constantly tugging away at something and I sure hope they aren't wanting to nest. I am running out of room in my big aviary. When I enter.... the birds are flying everywhere. Gotta reduce it soon.

I would make it bigger......but....... I spend alot of time now trying to keep things clean. (I am tooooo neat for my own good.)
Can't see another larger one to clean....yikes!
