Leg Bands HELP Perler beads ??

Post by flymouse » Fri Sep 25, 2015 6:03 am

I really want leg bands on my finches. From articles I have been reading looks like bands are put on when they are babys.

I read one post below
---------------------------
Now I have a request for you.....remember when there was discussion about leg bands....well I got some of those perler beads from Walmart and now I need a tool/gadget to put them on with. If I don't have to purchase one that would be nice....sooooo....my dear Inspector Gadget.....might you be able to suggest a homemade tool for that?
-----------------------------

So can I put these on my older ones. I have TONS of these as I am a crafter. I don't want to get confused on who is who down the road. Help please.

Have a great day
Mickey Jo

I would cut the bead in half to make them a little lighter and then cut a slit in the rings so they become a split band. Now you can put them on at anytime. It's not a bad idea to have on hand a banding tool as they are great for handfeeding used as a spoon.
You should be able to buy just the tool from Laraine for 25 cents.

to cut them in half you can use a pill cutter, then to split them open use a fine sharp pair od scissors.

I have not put the bands on yet. I'm wondering if I should cut the beads in half, or in 3rds if possible so that they are even lighter. Has anyone tried to do this.

I did print off the charts to keep track of breeding and hatchlings.

But I have screwed that up too because of my 2nd set of eggs I forgot to write down when they stopped laying, when they started sitting and when the first one hatched. Ok gonna start a new topic. on this, but has anyone cut them thinner than half?

Have a great day
