Back to cage sizes and numbers of birds

Post by Spreckles » Mon Nov 09, 2015 2:00 pm

Measured my cages FINALLY. I do have a large flight cage it is 30 inches long and 18" deep. It is set up with feeders and watering on both ends. 1 branch perch and a regular wooden perch at about same heights. There are 2 birds in there and will add 2 more. The upper cage is a tall cage for parakeets it's an 18x18x24. I have some things on the outside of the cage for play, a ladder, another water cup and the bowl for the birdbath. My little socie likes to play on the ladders. So how about a pair of another variety for the top cage? Seems like 6 birds would be ok. They can go where they want so know telling where they would end up.

Are these going to free flight at all times?? 30 x 18 is large enough for a pair but not more if your breeding them. 18 x 18 is not large enough for 6 birds.

If you have time could you read "Catching a Breeding girl" by gouldie fledge? She has a hurt hen sitting on a new clutch and no one has offered her any info yet. Since you have raised LG's?

30x18 is perfect for one pair. I would not put 4 birds in there. The 18x18 is perfect as a hospital cage if anyone gets sick. Definately too small for 2 birds.

Social birds like societies can do well crowded as many as 6 to a cage that size but I would not generally keep more than two in one. However if the cage is always open and only holds food, you're only really limited by the space of the room.
