new temporary cage

Post by Tish » Tue Jun 21, 2016 1:55 pm

I bought a new cage today to replace the tiny tiny cage that I received yesterday from my finch old owner. The cage was so small that it felt cruel to keep him in it for another day. I bought a big cage from petsmart, but it will only be for a few months until I can afford a flight cage. I also got another society finch to keep the other one company.

Oh dear, that old cage held three Societies? So many of the pet shops sell these small cages as 'perfect for finches'. The reasoning is tiny bird, tiny cage, but actually these little finches need more space than many other species, since they need to be able to fly.

Your new cage will work great as a hospital/quarantine cage once you get your flight cage. Glad you were able to get your little guy a friend.

Yup 3 Finches use to live in that tiny cage, kinda sad life to live. My one bird has no idea what millet or a cuttlebone is, he's just watching what the petsmart finch doing with it, so I hope he catches on and tries them too.

Welcome Tish.
A 30x18x18 cage runs about $43 on Amazon. I wired 2 of those together. How I understood their needs is " finches are not helicopters". The good thing about Socies is they like to cuddle up. Glad you got friends for your new buddy. Have fun learning about feeding, housing, all kinds of good info here.
