Feeders for Large Aviary
What kind of feeder do you use for a large cage/aviary? I thought I'd be smart and get a wild bird feeder but my kids managed to dump 2lbs of seed out within a day and a 1/2.

Re: Feeders for Large Aviary
I have 3 flight cages together and use one of those hanging open feeders I found one on Amazon that has fairly small holes for the screening ,some of the tiny seed does fall thru but not very much this works for me good because they all get right into it and the seed does move around so I don't really have to worry about blowing or moving the seed shucks out.I fill every 3 days or so,also my cages our inside. They came with 3 chains I removed and hang with rope.

Re: Feeders for Large Aviary
Barbara, I like that idea! Sally, I also like the gravity feeder idea. I will probably have a few feeding stations to cut down on the squabbling. I have 1/4" hardware fabric and not typical cage bars but I'm sure I can figure out a way to hang a vacation feeder.
Thanks for the suggestions!!

I have the same vacation feeders as Sally and like them for a few reasons. There is very little seed wasted and it catches most of the seed husks. It also holds a good amount of seed and takes up very little space if hung from outside. And finally it's easy to refill. If it's a larger flight I would use more than one.

Re: Feeders for Large Aviary
I've found that in a large aviary, it helps to have seed in two or three locations throughout the aviary. That way, a bully can't stop other birds from eating. The same goes for the water.

Re: Feeders for Large Aviary
Thanks Dave! I have a few seed cups and trays throughout the aviary to cut down on food fights. My hanging tray feeder should be delivered today and I am picking up a food hopper like Cindy has tomorrow when my bird supply store is open. He's closed on M & T and it never fails that those are the days I figure out that I *need* something for my kids. LOL!
