Hello everyone,
I got two Gouldian pairs (2 BH and 2 RH) a few weeks ago and they're currently in an interior cage with 25 in X 16 in with 35 in tall. (64 cm x 40 cm x 87 cm). Initially I was thinking to breed them together, and eventually get one more pair (I've read if Gouldians are breeding in colony should be 3+ pairs, is that so? to minimize 1x male to 1x male agression) . I'm new with Gouldians, so do you think there would be many pairs in this cage dimensions?
Thank you

That cage is almost definitely too small for three breeding pairs, and likely too tight for two breeding pairs. Gouldians may have problems breeding in a colony setting; separating each pair to their own cage during breeding should reduce stress and improve the success rate.

Hello,
Thank you for your response. I was thinking of buying an indoor aviary, I saw one with generous dimensions where I could probably put the three couples
1st option: 28x22x59 in (70x54x150 cm)
2nd option: 28x32x66 in (70x80x167 cm)
But probabbly the best is during breeding season separate the pairs, I've another cage with 24x38x22 in (61x38x55 cm) I think it should be enough for one pair of them

That size is fine for one pair to breed but 2 would be crowded. I used to breed 2 pair in a cage 48x20x30high without a problem. I don't think you need 3 pair, gouldians are rather laid back and not very aggressive.
best of luck

Thanks for your feedback

I'm sure, I'm not sure, but I do not know what to do, but I do not know what to do. Birds with the same color of head, always sleep together, as I bought them at the same time and joined them in the same cage, I think they pair themseleves as supposed
I'll probably choose to use the backup cage I have to breed one of the pairs. Thank you!
