plants in new aviary

Post by mickp » Mon Mar 09, 2009 4:07 am

here are a couple of pics of the plants that I have put in the new aviary so far

African Feathergrass (approx 1m high and 1m across, finches love the seeds and use the dry stems for nest material)
Image

Bamboo Plants (grow to approx 1.5m - 1.8m high)
Image

Box Hedge (grows to whatever height you allow it to, same for width, great for building nests in)
Image

Geranium (odd choice perhaps but mosquito's hate it & keep well away from general area. once big enough birds cannest in it)
Image

Wormwood herb (have seen it in aviaries up to 1m high and a metre in diameter, good for birds to eat and again provides nest sites)
Image

still have lots to plant will post pics as I go
Addicted to Finches, yes I do admit it.
I pray they never find a cure.

Thanks for the info, mick. It's always good to see how plants are used in aviaries, so we can copy you!

can only foresee one problem with the plants and that will come from one of the climbers I plan to use, a thornless blackberry, if the fruit lasts long enough to ripen I will be in there fighting the birds for it

Very nice! Your birds are gonna love it. I really like the use of real plants vs. fake. And I have both, but love the real ones.
