For anyone who has one of the 30x18x18 or 24x16x16 split breeder cages. Does the divider ride in a track on the floor?
IF I get one of these, I am thinking about removing the floor grid.
But the question then comes, how to make the divider still work?
Or will I have to come up with a method to make a divider?

That is one of the things that has kept me from removing the floor on my wire 30x18x18. The divider slides on a track that is in the top and on the floor--if I remove the floor, now the divider won't work, as it won't be tall enough, plus it won't have a track on the bottom to keep it in place. I guess you could slide it in the top track, and then secure it with something like binder clips, but there would be a gap at the bottom for the birds to get thru.

My latest set of 4 breeding cages from California do not have the rack on the top or bottom of the cage for the divider to ride in. The grate is still there of course but no rack on any of the cages. The divider itself is a little different too in that it does not have the 'hook' on the far side to hook into the back of the cage. It has three prongs. In other words it has three wires (bars) that extend beyong the end of the divider - I worry about "stabbing" ir scratching a finch as I slide it into the cage (they always flutter around as the divders are placed in the cages) and there is no rack to guide it either. You simply need to have these three prongs go through the back of the cage and rest there.
Here's pics of the dividers (A) being the old style and (B) being the new one I don't like. -

That is a great idea, Bill. Some of my breeding cages have solid dividers, and that is how I am able to check on a nest without totally freaking the parents. These cages came with both solid and wire dividers, and I much prefer the solid.B CAMP wrote:You just use the divider when you want to catch the birds right ,I would just use the colorplast make it the same as the wire divider safer for the birds just make the divider with little tabs to stick through the wire on both sides
