Yeah Steve, just fold the paper in half or whatever to get it in the cage, then lay it out flat... that's what I would do.
When removing it, I'd lightly mist the paper to keep the dust down when I rolled the paper up.
Anyone have this cage (or one like it)? (EDIT-- I DIT IT!!!)

papering grate on double flight cage
I don't like to have to clean off the grate, and want my finches to be able to retrieve and eat fallen seeds they knock out of their seed dishes, so I just paper the removable tray and also lay newspaper on top of the removable grate, fold it down under the leading edge of the grate and slide the "papered" grate back in. It is a little tricky to do, but it will work. I just really wish there was a way not to use the grate and just paper the tray, but if you leave out the grate, you have a big slot at the bottom of the cage that finches could escape from, and there is no way that I have found to reverse the tray and grate so the grate is on the bottom and the tray above it.

Well, I did it. My wife surprised me last night by saying that I could have the cage. So I bought it here, at the suggestion of someone else on this thread.
Before I bought it, I called the company to verify that this is a genuine HQ Cage, since there are a few knockoffs that don't seem to be as good. He assured me that it is. So I bought it, in the Charcoal color. Should look something like this, I hope, when it comes.
I can't believe I'm going to have that friggin' enormous cage in my house. I think I'm going to get 4 societies to go with the 4 little birds I currently have, just so the cage doesn't seem completely empty.
We all love getting new stuff, I suppose.

Great news Steve! I think you will love it but you may be a little shocked at how big it is
heh heh. The single flight cage seems HUGE to me in my little place. Your birds will thank you. You must have a very understanding wife too:)
You can expect very quick turnover of the order and shipping. It was only a matter of days and I received mine via FedEx.
