Re: Front view of one of my aviaries
I have not had a mosquito problem with the birds ever. And we get lots of mosquitoes here also. I always make sure all outdoor containers are empty of water so they can't breed in my yard. The birds roost approx 8 feet off the ground so I am not sure if they are protected from them or not. I have never seen a bite problem on their legs. Its a shame you have to use the screen cause I would think it probably blocks the view of the birds.

That is good to hear that your birds are not bothered by the mosquitos. I think I will leave the screen on the outer panel off on the second story area.
The screen does block the view some but I have an indoor area for me to sit in the middle of 3 aviaries...this way I don't get bit by mosquitoes either

What did you use for the roll down sides? Do they keep the rain and wind out well? Where did you get them? I think I will need to install something similar for the winter
Thank you,

Thank you,
Natalie

Re: Front view of one of my aviaries
They do help a lot. They shade the birds when the sun is super hot. They keep the rain from blowing in. They protect from distractions at night. The ones I have are 6'x6'. (They also have a 4x6) It took 6 to do my aviary. They are called Ambria roll up blinds. You can get them at Lowes or Home Depot. At Lowes they are a little cheaper. I think for the 6x6 I paid $12.95 ea. I believe they were $14.95 ea at Home Depot. They are real easy to install and look good when they are down. They come in different colors also. They do have more expensive ones that are a better quality. Mine are over a year old and so far I have only had to replace 3 of them.isabird wrote:What did you use for the roll down sides? Thank you,
Note: Use velcro to keep them in place while down otherwise the wind will blow them around. I put 3 2" strips on each side (Top middle bottom and one in the bottom center.) You have to go slow when pulling them up or you will rip the shade. Pull slow and the velcro unzips with ease. On the shade put the velcro at the threaded area, it gives more support.

Re: Front view of one of my aviaries
Good point about the velcro. I have used those plastic zip ties to hold the shade secured to the wire. Of course here in sunny FL I have it on the west side of the aviary and keep it down all the time. But I will remember the velcro tip for future use
