Re: Aviary masacre

Oh boy, I sympathise. I've had the same issue, with mysterious critters getting in through 8mm gaps and pulling birds out the same way.

A few days ago I lost 60% of my remaining stock over night. Some critter managed to break and remove the external bird bath (which was double-secured), leaving a gap for most of the birds to just fly out of. Found some bloody remains too.

I am absolutely fed up of being outwitted at every turn!! I've lost 75% of my birds since January, including 100% of my most valuable and loved ones - the Gouldian hen with the amazing red head, the $$$ Parrot Finches with the coolest pied patterns ever, all of my Yellow Gouldians including the big male with Blue genes, my Cordon Bleu boy, etc ... AAAARGH! NOT HAPPY.

The new aviary is on its way, but this has left me totally paranoid. There really seems to be no way anything can get in already.

So sorry to hear that this has happened. :( Have you moved them inside until the new aviary is ready?

Thanks

No, I haven't moved them. I really thought I had it all sorted - finally, no deaths for many weeks. But turns out the team of critters were probably just sitting back and planning their attack strategy - how to get that bird bath off and liberate the tasty captives.

I can't move them this week, but in the next two weeks I will because the slab is being laid.

Their bird baths are now inside with them. There are overhanging skid ramps to prevent any creature except Spiderman from climbing up to the raised cages (yes, they've always been raised off the ground!!), and every bit of wire has another bit of cross wire over it, etc. The only thing I haven't got is an infrared motion detector with a pea shooter attached to it. I'm tempted though
