New indoor flight dim's

Post by SamFoy » Sat Jan 02, 2010 1:44 am

I have a room. An indoor room measuring 15' x 11'. It is half of a 3rd car garage. The other half is a bedroom for my older girl. Anyway, my wife wants to raise canaries so we will - along with my finches. I want to build a flight/s cage along the 11' wall and save the 15' wall for the breeding cages and work area. Should I build 4 flight cages at 5'6" L x 3' H x 32" D (two flights stacked on top of the other) or 2 flight cages side by side at 5'6" L x 6' H x 32" D? I am leaving 2' on the bottom for supplies. These will serve mainly canaries, but I will sneak in some finches.

If you want to use the flights to house juveniles, or to separate birds by sex, you could do the four flights, each 3' tall. That would give you double the space for birds, going by width and depth alone. I know nothing about canaries, so don't know how that would work in placing multiple birds in each flight. There are some on here who do both canaries and finches and will be able to help you better than I can.

Yes, I forgot to say that I am planning on separating the males from the females until breeding seasoning starts. 4 cages would give me room to pull the juveniles too!
So, maybe 4 flights at 5'6" x 3' x 32" stacked like if you opened a napkin all the way out.

Oh, what about the lighting? The top flights I can put lights on top, but what about the bottom flight?
