Great product for cleaning cages!!
HI all. I just wanted to let everyone know what I use to clean my cages and aviary. I have found it to have no side effects to the birds, it does a great job and is also sanitizes as well. It is Clorox wipes. I have used both scents. I have never used the generic subs because I was afraid of the effects on the birds. These wipes are great for the glass, the wire and sides as well as cleaning the perches and dishes. I also use Fantastic spray for the cleaning the silk plants and dishes. Hope this info helps some of you.

Can I caution you on using some of these products...
Fantastik contains some chemicals that can be toxic. If an adult ingests even a tablespoon it can be fatal.

I would use caution spraying this on silks and the birds sitting or playing with the silks in their beak. Birds have a very delicate system, more so than us.
How about a solution of white vinegar and water as a quick cleanser?
As far as the Clorox wipes look on the lable for ingredients such as dimethyl benzyl ammonia chloride and dimethyl ethyl benzyl ammonia chloride. These are pesticides.

You can type in a product name and review the ingedients:

I agree with Cindy. Anything with bleach in it scares me when it comes to the birds.
If you like the wipes, why don't you make some of your own - REALLY CHEAPLY - by using papertowels, vinegar and water, and following this "recipe":

Good luck!

Bleach is a good disinfectant on empty cages if used outside, rinsed well & sun dried to allow the bleach to break down in the sun.

Re: Great product for cleaning cages!!
It depends on how you are using these cleaning products. If you are taking the plastic plants out of the cage and spraying them with Fantastik, then rinsing them very well, I see no problem. I have used various cleansing sprays, but I put the plants in the bathtub, spray away, let it sit, then fill the bathtub up with hot water with Simple Green added, let the plants soak, then rinse very thoroughly, let dry, and back in the cage. I think you can use about anything "outside" the cage and then rinsing well. The key is rinsing well.
For inside the cage, you have to be very careful with the products you use, as so many of the chemicals are not good for our birds. I use a diluted Simple Green solution for wiping down cages, perches, etc. with no problems. For their dishes, they go in the dishwasher or in the kitchen sink with normal dishwashing liquid--again, rinsing well afterwards.

I also agree with Sally. The key is to use these products away from the bird, rinse several times and allow the items to dry completely either. Setting some items out to sun dry helps (if you can) The sun helps to break some chemicals down including bleach.
If needing to do a quick clean up while the bird is in the cage try white vinegar diluted with a little water. It is pretty safe.
