Looking for the best of the best

Post by bmihlfeith » Thu Feb 18, 2010 4:25 pm

I'm setting up some breeder cages for my Gouldians and owls....
I don't want to cut corners and buy twice. So I'm looking for the best breeder set-ups I can find.

I need at least 8 cages, preferably on casters, these will be indoors.

I've thought about building my own, but apparently finding cage fronts in USA is pretty tough...arghhh! Any info on buying these would be appreciated also.

I've seen the ABBA's which look nice, but there doesn't appear to be any place to mount lighting for each individual cage. Is this an issue?

Can you guys point me in the right direction?
Any input would be great!

I've got the budget to get something nice, and i want to do it right the first time.

I'm in the process of acquiring birds now, and they're in my large flight aviary (12x12x9) and I'll build two more individual flight for mature birds and for birds coming into color.

thanks!

I have a set of the ABBA cage bank with the rolls of paper that is pulled through the bottom. Fabulous, Have had it for 10 years and still looks new. Bred many birds from gouldians to canaries in it. The versatility of making individual holding cages (to introduce the male to the female) and then to breed box cages, then to 6 " long flights .
I have mine split into 2 cages 36" long for each of the 4 rows. I gave the breeders a little more room this year..
There is enough space for a light to be placed above...but it would interfere with the rolling paper which is the whole point of the ease of cleaning.
I have many flourescent fixtures in the room and have never had a problem with datkness in them. I do move birds to other sunlit flights when not breeding.
I have not tried the ABBA box bank with drawers.

thanks for the info.
Do you have links to the cages that you have, with the rolling paper?

I'm finding it very difficult to find any good info on these. Where did you buy them?

thanks.

I buy from Abba in New Jersey and have it freight shipped.

If you call and ask for a catalog they have other styles of bank, box and wire breeder cages.
