Re: fall expansion
yes, poop damage is an issue. as far as reflecting light goes though.. i was worried about thta and was devising ways of getting more light..... and then a friend whos grows alot of plants said he had some flouresent i could have.... he said they were t5 sun blasters, when i got them i thought "gee these are tiny" and he gave me four 4 foot ones. i set up two tonight. and they are the brightest thing i have ever seen!!! two overpower the six 4 foot regular floursecents that i had. has anyone ever used these?
i did some research on them and they are pretty expensive. but honestly if i build anything elese i would never use anything but these now. and they are energy effecient!!!!
not only are the full spectrum, but they also put out high UV. perfect.

Re: fall expansion
Is "sunblasters" the name of the bulb? Would like to know more about the lights - I use a T8 bulb right now and they are bright but always interested in other light sources.

yeah, that's the company, and the mounting system and connect-ability is awesome... you can connect as many lights as you like in series and run off one single outlet!!!! to mount them they supply little clips that you screw in place and the whole unit just clips into them!!!
couldn't even try to recommend a better light. i couldn't find much info on people that have used them for birds, but all signs point to good!

Re: fall expansion
I haven't spent much time on here either. So just saw this. Have been busy with sick pets. I lost my old cat Sadie recently.. she died in hospital after exploratory surgery. And my sister's old dog is now having heart problems. So I haven't felt up to browsing on the web lately. Starting to get back to normal now, and getting used to a quieter life at home, with just the 4 birds and one very slow old dog.kylegood wrote:Yes franny, I have been away for a while partly because I have had nothing to add to the forum, so I just lurked around here and there. I haventt seen much for local birdmarts recently so I haven't made any new aquisitions. My girlfriend also adopted a horse so I have helped out at the farm where she boards. Been giving done thought to picking up a paint brush again after a 6 year hiatus. The second I graduates university and received a fine arts degree I stopped painting?????
I hope you are well also!!! And how are your gouldians?

My Gouldians would love to go to nest...but there isn't one, so they are busy trying to get into the silk plants to nest.

Sometimes I think Jane should be with other GBs. She might have a shorter life, but would be happier. But then I think about the almost 2 1/2 years I've had her, and think I'd miss her too much. Cricket would be happy anywhere.

So no Gouldian babies here, at least for now. Sure wish I could try though. I would have all white breasted, and maybe some split to blue. The breeder said the female was split....but sometimes I think that they just say that when they've bred any colour to a blue, or when they breed 2 split to blues....as if it was a given that all babies would be split. But they can't really know though, since she had never been bred yet when I bought her. She was only 7 months old.
Anyway, nice to hear your girlfriend has gotten a horse. Tell me more! Any Pics? If I ever get the chance to meet her I'd love to take some photos for reference photos for paintings. Maybe in the spring I will have to venture out to "the sticks" and see your aviaries for myself, and meet your girlfriend and her horse.

Re: fall expansion
Your welcome anytime franny, the horse (Truman) is a nine yr old standardbred. He's a good boy good to ride but he doesnt canter to well but his pace is great. I guess he's a retired race horse (cart race)
That's too bad you can't breed the gouldians, if you want a second cage so they can breed let me know asap as I have a bunch of stuff kicking around and I could whip you up one in no time, just tell me the size,
Sorry to here about your kitty, and your dog, those situations are rough, our pomeranian/chiwahwa has a slightly enlarge hard and her life span may not be as long as it should, but quality of life over quantity is what I stand by.

Re: fall expansion
Was Truman adopted through Greener Pastures? I donated a painting to them once. Diane I think is her name. Good for her for taking a former harness racer! I once rode a retired pacer, and was it ever weird trying to stay sitting properly when he paced!kylegood wrote:Your welcome anytime franny, the horse (Truman) is a nine yr old standardbred. I agree about quality of life vs quantity. So for Kenzie (the dog) is still pretty perky. They told us when she was 6 months old she had a large heart... then when she was about 8 years old they said they "may have over-reacted a bit"...

I still owe you for your help at the bird mart! So I won't take you up on your offer for a cage just yet! You are way to busy I can see. But the offer is sure appreciated.
