yep maybe you do,but thats not a bad thing...al you really need to think about is whether or not the young can catch there claws in it or if anything can wrap round there legs and reduce the blood flow..i once made the big mistake of putting sisal in my aviary i cut it into short strips about 2 inches long thinking it would be safe.it was great for nesting material but i found one of my quail was just sat doing nothing when i caught it up it had sisal wrapped so tight round its legs it was cutting into the skin luckily i managed to get it all off and i inspected them every day until i had collected all the stuff of the floor i think the lint would be ok as i always wash my hand with antiseptic wipes and the smell is still on my hands when i inspect nests and ring youngsters..the books say that you are not supposed to leave smells on the chicks or they will be rejected by the parents..this has never happened to me yet in over 25 years ..when i make up my canary nest pans i stick the felt in with carbolic soap and that does not seem to bother them and it sure stinks i can tell you

I bought a pair of cut throat finches yesterday thinking I was going to move a pair of my CFW black cheek zebras to the big flight so the cut throats could have their own cage, so when I went to do that, the zebras (to my suprise) had 6 eggs. So I was like shoot, I can't move the zebras yet. So now, the cut throats are alone in a smaller cage until the zebras babies hatch and are ready to move to the big flight! It's amazing when you have a lot of birds, sometimes breeding and eggs and babies just go unnoticed!

Well... to my surprise also, my societies are on their third clutch this year. I tried to take a picture of the babies in the nest box...

It always amazes me the amount of poop that collects as the babies get bigger! Out of all the clutches my societies have had this year, I have not kept any of the babies. There are a lot of people around here that want finches. I think I may keep one from this clutch though.
