I think what some people do for outdoor aviaries is to use a heavy gauge welded wire, underneath the rock/gravel floor. This would help to keep critters/predators out. I'm not sire what size is recommended, or how to attach it to the frame, so ensure nothing can creep or slither its way between it.
I'm sure someone who has done it this way will be along to give better info on it.

oh! what happened to the brick floor? I would think that would be a good choice. if not, dirt or rock might be ok if you can lay down some wire mesh first.

Unfortunately the bricks had to be used elsewhere in the yard, if I can find enough for free I would do brick

alright, the indoor section is almost finished.. the flooring has gone down and the insulation has been started.
(i may have asked this before) what would recommend as an optimal temperature in the room during winter months... i know this can be different based on species. so for the sake of this question it will be mostly owls, gouldians, an goldbreasted wax bills.
i realize i could just set it up at my regular household temperature, but at the same time i am trying to be cautious of energy consumption.
our winters are cold wet and long...
