Well, the end of my summer was pretty busy, so I had to halt work on this for a while, due to time and money. I got back into it this week, so here is an update.
I had previously assembled the different parts separately.

Today, I finally started assembly of the frame.
First, I attached the sides to the top and bottom.

Then added the middle level

I still have lots to do, but it is slowly coming together!

Wow! I am so excited for you, Nelissa -- it looks very good so far. I had previously wanted to do something like you are talking about (and doing) but since I can't even hit a nail straight :? I can't do it myself.

Thanks for the progress report and the photos! Keep us updated! :)

Looks awesome Nelissa! Your birds will be in heaven! What kind of doors will you put in. I'm always curious because of the cleaning thing.

Where the narrow sections are on each of the side pieces - each of those will have 2 doors. And in the front, there will be similar sets of doors (I don't have them sectioned off yet). So each of the four individual units will have 4 doors total (a set of 2 on the end and a set of 2 on the front). This way, I should be able to access all areas of each unit. Each door will open independently, but can be opened together, if I need more access.

I went out today and got the pegboard and the rest of the 2x2s for the door frames, as well as the light fixtures.
The mesh has been shipped (I went with dark green because that's what I could get thebest deal on), and should be here this week. The hinges and latches have arrived. By shopping around online for a bit (okay, for a long time), I got a much better deal online than I could have gotten at the store!
I'm not 100% sure how I will be assembling the doors yet, but I still have to get the wood for those.
I am starting to sketch out the designs on the pegboard for the back tonight... I am not very artistic so..... Well, we'll see how it goes! Hahaha

I'm spending more money than I wanted to, but since it's been spread out over a few months, it has been manageable. And the amount of space for the birds, as well as the freedom to rearrange as I need to, will be well-worth the extra money spent!
Okay, I am officially.... A finchaholic!

It has been slow going still, but...
The last couple weeks, I got the pegboard for the back wall painted and installed, as well as the channels for the dividers:
Image
Untitled by Nelloyello11, on Flickr

Where the gaps are below the pegboard, I will be putting white board. I am using scraps pieces from the whiteboard for the floors, so it saves me having to buy another full sheet of pegboard.
There is a very small (1/2") space between the center vertical boards in the front and back, which will serve as the channel to slide dividers in and out to separate each level into two cages.

This week, I finished the door frames on the front:

I have to cut and staple wire, buy the whiteboard for floor and lower back walls. Aaaaand build and install the doors.
That's the part that's most intimidating, as I'm not sure of the best way to actually build a square door....
Open to suggestions/ instructions haha

You are making good progress and I enjoy seeing the updates. I like the floral design on the pegboard. Just think when that day comes when you start putting your birds in there all your effort and hard work will have been so worth it. :D
