Re: New Aviary build, suggestions, advice welcome....
I wouldn't advise window screen for 2 reasons. 1) the finches can get there toe nails caught in it very easily which can and will result in injury to the finch and 2) window screen is very easy for predators to break through to get to your babies.
As far as mesh goes depending on what wild predators you have the safest is to not go bigger then 1/4 inch. Some things like snakes can fit through 1/2 inch.

I love Candace's aviaries too! I wish I had decorated mine with wall paintings when I built it. However, I did that with my bathroom, which now has a sunset on the beach on one side (over the bath tub), and a jungle scene on the other side. This is what I used: http://www.tatouagedesigns.com/
Candace, I hope you don't mind me giving away your secret to perfect wall painting...
My granddaughter has the wild flowers in her room, decorated also with flower fairies... It looks lovely!

Start decorating the other walls in your house, why just decorate aviaries?CandoAviary wrote:

Here are pics of the roof in place and the white painted background. Next thing to do is get some wire mesh to cover the front of aviary. What do you think so far.....

Candace, Dayna,
Thanks for all your positive comments. Went to lowes for 1/2" wire mesh and they were out. Puts everything on hold for now. I will have to go to Home depot see if they have any. Still lots more to do in the inside though. Will post more pics as I have something new done. Thnxs

When I was building mine, i found that Lowe's and Home Depot only stocked smaller rolls. I ended up buying online and was able to find a pretty good deal at this place.y2kdejesus wrote:Candace, Dayna,

Nelissa,
After taking measurements I am going to need about 25' long roll, 3' wide. I will take a look at that website thanks.

That's exactly what I got from them. The have 1/2" and 1/4" mesh with or without the PVC coating. Just do a search on the site for hardware cloth and you should get a bunch of options.y2kdejesus wrote:Nelissa,

Good luck with your aviary! It's looking really good so far. Your birds are going to love all of that fly space!
