Actually, my brother used to work for the phone company, and I have tons of PHONE WIRE, which is what I use. Phone wire is I think copper with a tight vinyl coating that doesn't come off at all.
Here's a pic of the cage:

I have that cage...the lower tray has a lip on it and it fits snuggly enough not to have to put hoes in it or scure it with zip ties.

cindy...so you're saying you put the bottom tray in the middle of the cage to form the new bottom for the top half????????? Then what do you use for a tray in the bottom of the bottom half?

Ehiter cover the grate...the grate is left on the bottom. Or get a new tray or make one.

From looking at Cindy's flights, and my uncles that are divided, the light is usually fine down there.

Down where Dante? I need to know how to provide lighting for the bottom apartment.
I lucked out at a thrift store today. Bought 5 plastic trays of 1" depth; with two set next to each other they measure 29" x 16", and since the space of the floor over the grating will measure 29 x 17, this is PERFECT!. 1" depth. PERFECT..Sturdy plastic. PERFECT!. Power blue. PERFECT (my carpeting is blue.) Now I have to buy the 2nd cage, and I will have four bird apartments, 20 x 30 x 20 high.
Now tell me about adding lighting to the bottom apartments .

Sounds PERFECT! Lol, and I meant the bottom cages, they seem to get enough light. You could also buy a light for down there. My flight is a bit dark (the top, left and right sides, and half the back wall are solid wood) So I hung an aquairum light with a button on the back of the cage to give it light.

DanteD716 - since I like to have plastics on the back of my cages, can I hang a light INSIDE the lower cage. Will the birds fly up into it & burn their feathers off?

Some birds do not mind the light inside and some fly into it, if mounted on the side to low they poop on it.

Can you take a picture of your light, are you using the grate as the divider for the second floor? If you attacj the light to the grate bottom I would be concserned about it getting wet and if it could cause a fire if the paper contacts it.

I have the same cage and looked at the space right above the door, you can mount a light on the inside right above the door.

Yes you cna hang it on the inside depending where and what kind of light, if you are putting the grate in the middle it can be hung from the grate.

Cindy also gave the suggestion above the door

If you hang it from the grate I would not cover the grate with paper directly over top of the grate. I would hang it over the front door or mount it on the inside on one of the sides, hide enough that they can not perch on it.

Cindy; your suggestion made sense. I will mount it at the top of the door; probably on the outside of the cage. I think this will work perfectly.
This is just another example of the forum sharing their ideas; it may sound like simple tips you are offering, but light bulbs don't often go off when you are sitting at home alone and it's such a HELP to get your ideas!!!!!!! I can't thank you all enough for the education you all have given me :YMPARTY:
