Re: Pretty good deterrent for hulls/seeds/cage mess on floor
At ace hardware I bought a large roll of plastic that I lined a few of my cages with. I think it was a plastic drop cloth for painting, but is made of a thick plastic. It was easy to add to some of my smaller cages. I would love to find some cheap vinyl to line my larger flight cages.

Brian, are you using it as a full layer over the grate like Dolly did or are you just doing sort of a along the sidelines insert along the walls?
I am beside myself with bird seed messes! Not so worried about my bird room as I have terra cotta floors and they sweep up easily but my family room (yes, I'm branching out into a second room... my plan is take over the whole house .. j/k!) has hardwood floors and I worry not only about the seed but the mess they make when splashing in the baths and the oddball poop that ends up on the floor.

On the newer cage, I actually built up the bottom edges with the plastic cloth to help save some of the plastic mesh.
The other cages I have them hanging underneath the entire cage bottom and pinned up with paper clips on the back and two sides. Never thought of a way to cover the front and still be able to pull the tray out to change papers.
The best thing is that its fairly cheap to buy - I recall spending $10 and was able to do all my cages.

great idea, much better than mine. I don't understand why companies don't make larger mesh guards for cages. I vacuum everyday. I will be using your idea. sounds great....-tammy

I've had to vacuum around my cages 2-3 times a day, due to the seed hulls. I am going to be doing something like that soon!

Well, I only vacuum once a week now when I clean my cages. I can't believe how great this works
