Re: Tidy Seed Feeders
I bought 6 seed hoppers from Red Bird products - sorry, I have not figured out how to do a link - they were $5.50 and I have been using them for about 3 days- I find much less mess though I am still training the birds to use it - I crumbled up millet and put it far back into the tray so that they had to see the seed and so far, 4 cages have adapted! I do leave other means of food like a tube type feeder and always millet but I am thrilled so far about the hulls not flying about!

I use those same seed hoppers that Red Bird Products sells, scroll down six rows, they are on the far right:

I have seen the Tidy seed hoppers, but they are quite pricey. I'm sure they are sturdier, but they should be for the price. The biggest problem I have with the cheaper hoppers is that sometimes the bottom tray (not the hull drawer) separates from the body, spilling seed all over, but I just glue them back on and never have a problem again.
Since the hull drawer fills up before the hopper is empty, when I take out the drawer to empty it, I just give the hopper a little shake, to make sure the seed is moving through. I have only had a few birds that had to be trained to use the hoppers, most figure it out within minutes. I had a pair of Grenadiers that would hang on the sides and peck at the plastic, trying to get the seed they could see but not touch, but they finally figured it out. Larger birds would definitely have a problem using this hopper, it is too small for them.

Re: Tidy Seed Feeders
I have the same ones that Sally and Todd use, though mine are sitting unused in the closet. I have $85 worth of them! I probably should sell them.
While some of my birds took to them, others did not seem to care for them and I could never find any peace of mind while using them. Between worrying about whether all the birds were using and whether they were possibly jamming up, I found I was a nervous wreck. I'd rather have more mess, less worrying so went back to regular food dishes. I would never use them while away (why I initially bought them) as I couldn't even feel comfortable with them while I was still around in the house.

Re: Tidy Seed Feeders
I was recently gone for three days, and had no problems with the seed hoppers. I will say that when I am going out of town, I not only use the seed hoppers, but every cage gets spray millet. They probably eat more of the spray millet than out of the seed hoppers while I am gone.
