Thanks for the kind words. Yes, I designed it to fit next to the fireplace in the living room. I would be happy to share some of the plans and details if someone is interested. I took some pictures along the way.

WOW! They look like furniture quality. Did you use pre-made cabinetry?

Andy love the shape of the flight, I am just new to world of small birds and I am ready (my birds out grew their store bought cage) to start building my own large cage, I noticed you do not have a tray for the bottom of your flight cage, what do you use for a base and what material are you using in the bottom of your cage for the birds? These are the two things holding me up from starting construction, any advice would be appreciated.
New flight cage will be 55X30X20 LHW

Thanks for any feed back

My husband built all my aviaries and cages, never had a tray. If you make about 6 inches up from the bottom solid you have so much less mess on your floors. Any side next to a wall also we built solid, top and front wire. For the bottom we have used rolled flooring with oil DRI or kitty litter as bedding.

Oh my gosh those are BOTH awesome! I just showed my husband your pics. I am officially initiating a three month campaign to get him to build me (or buy me!) an indoor aviary or bigger flight cage for my birthday in August...so far I am losing, but he said no to each finch purchase before I brought him around, so there is hope. Anyway, I am curious, what are the dimensions for each of yours? I can see the relative size of the large one based on the fireplace. But I must convince Husband that an indoor aviary is really not SO big...;).

I built it so that the base is two inches lower than the plexiglass window. I have corncob bits on the bottom as my base. It's easy to use a dustpan to screed off the top layer when necessary.
@Musetta
The base is 40" side and 24" deep. I drew out all the specs on graph paper so that I (or anyone else) could duplicate it. At some point, maybe I can get them scanned and make them available.
