Wow Grant...absolutely beautiful!!! If I had the skill (small possibility) and the money (also small possibility), I would replace all of my flights with these...beautiful and functional is what I am all about!!! I am not able to view the pics closely (for some strange reason :( ), so what did you use for the base?

Ginene Hmmm...I don't know what might be the problem with viewing the photos. Unfortunately, they are from my iPhone and not the best photos anyway. Probably need to clean the camera lens! lol

The top, bottom, and back is made with 3/4" plywood. The other structure is made with 1x2" boards. I made a small table out of 4x4s and 1x5"s (with 1x2 supports underneath).

Overall, it's a very simple design, and would be especially cheap for those fortunate few with extra wood bits lying around. Wood is so expensive! By the time you add up all the wood trim, it gets kind of pricy. Even so, I think it costs quite a bit to buy a double-flight cage, and so you can build something much bigger and (in my opinion) more aesthetic.

This aviary is the most functional of all my cabinets so far. It has a pullout tray, a pull out bottom grate, and I installed some clear acrylic guards on the side. No seeds on the floor so far! I love it and I think the birds do too. It's buzzing with activity and very entertaining to watch. Only the male twinspot is still smacking into the plexiglass. I think he may be attacking his reflection? Idk. Everybody else seems to get it except him.

The problem viewing the pics is my computer, not your pics  . I am usually able to click on a pic to enlarge it so I can see details, but the only option my computer is offering me is to "save." Anyway...I could even consider putting the snap fence panels on the front of mine, as they aren't unattractive...but I wonder how it would be viewing the finches through them. Maybe they would obstruct the view too much...hmmm. I happen to be one of those people who has wood lying around. I have gorgeous oak crown and base molding sitting in my garage just waiting to be used. I'm not sure how a flight would look with white snap fence and oak frame...hmmm. Maybe in the future they will make the snap fence panels in colors. That would be great! What did you use for a bottom grate? I bet your twinspot thinks he's attacking another male...he will figure it out soon enough :) .
