What to use in the bottom of the cage

cant think of any reason why store bought sand shouldnt be used. be sure to ask though if anything has been added to it or if pesticides and weed sprays may have been used near it. if they have the sand can be washed prior to using. just rinse it under fresh water then let it dry in the sun for a couple of days, making sure that you turn the sand a few times so that all of it dries

We use newspaper. It's cheap and easy to take out and replace.

I don't think the sand bothers them either, im sure they see sand all the time in the wild. i just use newspaper because i have so much of it and its free and in abundant.

The pleasure of using newspaper is that you can put pictures of politicians face up and watch the birds pass an opinion on them all day long. :lol:
