Re: Glass sides for aviary
A friend (dfcauley) added a glassed-in sun porch aviary to the front of her house, so she could view the birds through the windows. Another member here (Ursula) has a sun room that she turned into a free-flight aviary. Do a search for their posts, they included many photos of their setups. Another friend has an atrium aviary in her house. When I took some Strawberry finches to her, they first flew into the glass a few times, and then they realized that they had boundaries. Most of the time, unless you have a really huge aviary, they are not flying fast enough at the glass to harm themselves. I wouldn't worry about whether or not they can see you through the glass, I think they get used to you pretty quickly. Just like when I go into my bird room, all the birds in cages stop what they are doing and fly up to the top perches. But after I sit in my chair for a few minutes, they all go back to their normal activities.

Re: Glass sides for aviary
The bottom 3 feet of my viewing window for my aviary is glass, top half is mesh. The birds flew into the glass the first couple times i entered the aviary through the back door but turn they realized, like Sally said, that they have boundaries
