Thanks Bill and Janine :D

No - I've had most of my birds resting for months and others for a year or more.... So give them nesting material and they are just besides themselves

I also have Fires breeding - but they are still building their nest. Of all the waxbills I really love the different Fire Finches species the best.

Thanks for sharing so much with us. I love your set-up AND your birds. The pictures are great, too. So exciting about the grenadiers-- hopefully you will have many many babies soon!

Misty...I sure have enjoyed viewing your progress with your bird house. It is a great learning experience to see all that you have done and what you had to go through to get it all ready.

Does the bird house have its own mailing address?

TY TY TY :D

It is two pairs with 4 eggs each  Both pairs are sitting.

The VE pair - I don't think I have the right set up for them yet - not enough greenery - nest too out in the open so going to change that today. Plus remember that hen was super fussy over mealworms and still is - now they won't eat eggfood so it is certainly a challenge...

The other two hens I let get their tails back first and they are back and with no white feathers so I'm happy and they too will get their boys today. It is time...

The bird house is part of our address - not a house like what candace has - I wish! :D

Well I HAD good news but it only lasted for about 24 hours when I noticed the good news! :(

I found that my YB Waxbills had gone to nest and the hen was sitting - ran to get my camera and when I got back found her on the cage floor looking HORRIBLE! :( She was egg bound and this is my first and only experience of this since 7 plus years ago when I tried the Marshall products.... anyway another lesson learned... give the wild caughts calcium their first breeding season as what normally works for all the others may not work for them if they don't eat it!

The poor little hen left me with one egg - I feel horrible loosing her over something so stupid if only I had given her what she needed... #-o

Oh so sorry Misty

Where you able to give her egg to another pair? Hopefully that would at least give you a chance to keep her bloodline going. [-o<

How unfortunate. Misty, I am so sorry. Calcium/Vitamin D do make a difference but it could of been something out of your control. With wild caughts you never really know how old they are. Could of been age related...also the temps, stress and the physical condition of the bird all play into eggbinding problems. Could of been an oversized egg... so many things could cause this, I sure hope you don't beat yourself up too much. We all learn lessons along the way but sometimes, even after we learn a few things, disaster can still stike. I hope you can find another hen soon for that beautiful boy.

Oh that's so sad Misty and I'm sorry to hear that! Hope you were able to save the egg. Poor girl.

Oh, I am so sorry, Misty. Hopefully you have a fertilized egg and can get a chick...
