Thank you everyone...long weekend!!!!

this is the upper flight area, roosting bars...they are flat so it gives a spot for their feet to rest.

Feeding stations I might change up a bit depending on how it works out for me and the birds.

A bath container will be given in the morning while I take the water bottle out and put new in.

The seed container will be removed and while cleaning and refilling it a dish of the food of the day...eggfood, veggies will be given.

Thank you Janine, tinysparrow and Deborah,

We added another roosting perch and some extra perches especially one lower. We stood watxhing them tonight and they were having a blast flying all about. I had to go into the aviary to add the perches and ectra roosting bar...a few flew to the one right behind me to see what I was doing. Most of the ones I put in were families and a few extra BC. Some of the young are just coloring out. So soon I will will rehome them and then I will add the other pairs I have.

nice aviary cindy! congratulation!

one question though (as I live on the other side of the globe - different approach), what was that substrate?

I uses the larger size kiln dried pine shavings...it is rather large shavings so I may go to a finer shaving or aspen....depends how it works...Can't use sand since bagging it and taking it across the house to the trash means crossing polished wood floors...I had a bag break over tile floors...left a nice trail of sand before I realized it.

William, both my husband and I stand in the door from time to time just watching the birds interact and fly about. They are loving the space and playing in the bedding on the floor.

I only had one incident with a pair being bossy but it calmed down. I had to go in and fix a few things and add another roosting bar, I turned slowly to see a few on the roosting bar behind me craning to see what I was doing. One landed on my head and stayed there, another on the edge of my glasses...startled me a bit but I tried to stay still. Some will stay put and let me talk to them.

My husband did most of the hard work on it and I helped with screening, putting it together and making the roosting bars. He did a great job, once in a while I find him standing in the room watching the birds. I still have cages but not as many and the room is reorganized.

I am thrilled to free flight some of my birds...once some of the young are colored up fully and sold I can move more into the aviary. Some of my older pairs have a nice cage since they do better on their own.

Cindy,
It looks fantastic! One question, how do you get inside to stand up? and one more question, lol, How do you clean the aviary and wood/flat perches?
I can't wait to see the finches inside. I could not see them in the pics, but thought they might be there, but hard to see in online pic?
Congrats and tell your hubby what a wonderful job and blessing he is for you!
