My owls are much quieter than my other finches...they are awesome birds :) . Two males would get along fine...I had 2 brothers that were the best of friends. I currently have a M/F pair that I hope to breed this spring :)

Are they hard to care for or require anything more than other species? I am reading about myths and truths of Gouldins and and a little skeptical of them. I want to give them a good nice home, but do not want a species delicate that I must be so careful. This is a hard decision.

Nope...Owls are no more difficult than other finches! They LOVE to fly and are sweet little birds. And they are beautiful too!

Hi Tammie.
Yes, I do have zebbies (love them to pieces), some days could murder them LOL. And bless their little feathered heads, they beep and meep all day long, and don't stop until I cover their cages. They are adorable and active and curious and oh so funny. Would I have them in my bedroom? Hell NO!

Societies are friendly and very sweet. I have them too. The males sing and do a poofy dance, all puffed up with raised feathers on top of their heads. The females only chirp. They are undemanding and easy to fall in love with.

There are many different finches out there. You can get lots of information on the forum and over the internet. Then you have to make a decision as to the birds' needs, cost, availability etc. If you don't want babies, then your best bet is two of the same gender.

Regarding lighting. If the room you want to keep them in is dark, then a full spectrum light 'for' birds would be a good idea, both for the new kids and for Harley as well. It mimics the sunlight which they have to do without and it's beneficial for their health, feathers, eye sight and behavior. Regretably we live in areas where sun shine is not a given, so we have to do all that we can to give them a life as close as possible as to what they would have had in the wild.

Hopefully this has been of some help.
