And here I am worrying about my birds in the wind and rain, when yours go out to play in the snow!! Looking at that picture, I'm not feeling so bad about the pouring rain at the moment, lol!

Beautiful aviary Debbie! I really like the design of it, with the shed. You have definitely given me something to think about for the next aviary I get (one day!)

Debbie
What do you have set up to keep them warm? The inside look like a separate room made of wood? How do they do in high wind and storms? Do they go to the inside portion? Does it look different in summer? Misters? I'm still contemplating finishing my outdoor aviary...

Thanks Roxanne :)
The shed it great for them to get out of the weather and find some heat. I keep all the water and food in there also so the outside vermin aren't attracted to it.

I have a oil filled radiator in the shed that has no problem keeping the shed at a steady 55F during the cold winter months. The birds go in and out of the little door to the shed whenever they want.
I used to wrap the entire wire part with plastic during the winter and lock the birds in the shed but I decided to leave it open and they have done fine.
In the summer open the window to the shed and add a large bird bath with a rock in the middle to serve as an "island", other then that it's the same year round.

I noticed you have gouldians and owls, are there other species in the aviary? What about parrot finches? I'm not sure they could tolerate 55F. I try to keep my bird room at 72 in winter.

My son worked on it during the week and my husband after work and weekend. It took them one week, they are both carpenters by trade though.

All of those did well in the outdoor aviary? Even in winter? Wow!

Wow, beautiful aviary!!!!! I was considering an outdoor aviary, attattched to my garage, and the bird could enter a small portion of the garage through a window to stay warm in the winter... We have similiar weather so it may be possible!

I had the java when I was closing them up in the shed during winter but I don't see why they wouldn't do well being able to go in and out.
