Very nice aviary, funny that i've been building my aviary at the same time that you've been doing yours. Insulating was a massive pain, must have taken about 30 hours to get it right, then another 15-20 hours to board over the insulation.

Did a local guy do yours? I had someone from about 200 miles away deliver my aviary but he only made the parts and I had to put it up myself, he made a few errors in the cutting which is annoying but nothing that couldn't be worked around. Total size is 6 foot wide by 13 foot long, split into 3 sections, a 3 foot wide entry section, a 4 foot wide middle/enclosed section and a 6 foot wide semi enclosed section (enclosed on all sides except the front, where there is mesh, like yours really, except I decided to put persplex over the mesh to keep the cold and draft out so I can leave the birds in that bit all the time. Birds have free roam between the 4 foot and 6 foot sections.

I'm only putting 2 types of birds into my aviary, a huge masked grass finch colony, and a smaller fawn bicheno colony, well, fawn hens and split males, easy to sex them that way and good way to breed them. Although I am also thinking of getting a new pair of bluecaps to put out there during the summer to see how well that works compared to cage breeding.
Gouldians, Masked grass finches, Blue capped cordon bleus, Fawn Bichenos, Bengalese.

I think the 'dark one at the water' might actually be part of a fountain or spigot...?

It is Liz...

And Bob...mine was built locally and was erected in their yard so I could make sure it was ok before buying.Insulating is always a pain...both the work and the fact it's got nothing to do with birds...The fun comes when setting up perches and boxes etc... :D

Is this your first time with diamond sparrows? I would love to have a pair when my addition is ready, but haven't heard good things about them getting along with other birds. They are beautiful BTW!!!!! =D>

Great looking fids and gathering nesting materials already - fabulous!

Best wishes for the Diamond Firetails. I just lost hen #2 and will now sell the male. Both deaths had nothing to do with the male being agressive towards the hens. They are still a mystery to me but I'll be watching to hear how yours progress.

Looking great Paul, hope everything else improves now.

Donna, dont believe half of the stories you hear about diamonds.
mine are in a mixed aviary with waxbills and there has never been any trouble.
like most other birds they are territorial around their nest site.
Addicted to Finches, yes I do admit it.
I pray they never find a cure.
