Hi Finchlet! I copied your idea of the finch condo (on a small scale). Here are the finch and parakeet cages in the windows of the dining room!

They like to call to the wild birds outside...except the hawk that flies in to try to get the birds at the feeder!

I thought that my cages were an OK size but now I want a set up like Finchlet has! :P

lol I think we all would love that sort of set up! I'm starting to get antsy about making mine! I've planning on starting in 2 weeks, I've got a dentist appointment next week that I'm terrified to see the bill for, or else I'd have already started.

Wow. I would expect to hear rain forest sounds while sitting in that chair in the evening! :)

That's what my friends say when they visit. Besides the birds, in that same area is a 20 gallon tank with two African Clawed Frogs :P . I'd love to have a conservatory where I could have all of my house plants and birds flying free....anyone have a spare fifty thousand? ha ha

WoW! that looks so cool! I wish that I could grow plants and not kill them... :( but I have a black thumb (instead of a green thumb)
I am toying with the idea of getting a plant or two for the finch mansion. My mom suggested a ficus tree. whatever it is, it will have to be nearly impossible to kill. I can't even keep the lawn alive! ha ha!

lol I'm the same way Finchlet, I thought about making a vivarium for my crabs but it would be a deatharium for the plants I can't even keep cacti or succulents :?

"deatharium" ! Thalia...very funny!

A ficus would be a nice choice for your little birds, Finchlet! They are very slow growing trees that come in a variety of leaf shapes and plant shapes. These are the trees that you see a lot of in offices. They range from very tree-like to the rubber tree, which is a ficus too but has big flat leaves.

I have the ficus "Benjamina", which is a very nice little tree. I bought mine very small. You should be able to find a nice size variety in your garden stores or even in your Home Depot or Lowe's store. Their care is very simple and the only thing that might happen if they are shocked is that you would get a massive leaf drop. Some of them get a very interesting root ball that makes the tree look almost bonsai.

Your finchies would probably adore the multi-branced tree....I have no idea how you would keep it clean, though, with those messy little poopers! :P

are there any places in the us that sell artificial plants as they would fare better for wear and tear and they would not take much cleaning

Yes, Ken! I have some sprigs of silk plants in with my finches and they are easy to take out and clean.

I bought mine at a Michael's craft store. Joann Fabric also has plants, WalMart has some, although the quality won't be as good. There are also online stores if you search Google that have really nice, lifelike ficus trees in silk.

i think they will last longer than anything else,as some finches chew stalks to the nub and leave nothing to grow back
