Here is the indoor aviary room that I built. The aviary back drop is a mural I bought online for $85. I then applied shellac over it to make it last. Green PVC coated 1/2" wire. Plexiglass base on the lower 3 foot panels. 15 Ft. long x 4 Ft. deep x 7 Ft. high.

Oh gosh that is one beautifully thought out aviary! I like the idea of plexiglass on the bottom section. That will offer more protection both inside and out. The mural really adds to the feel of a tropical setting...so lovely. A table with a view.....can I make a reservation? :D

I am curious about what you have for flooring in there....can't quite tell!

How can we bribe you into posting more photos closer up to see your birds in there?

Thank you so much for the kind words. I was trying to create a certain atmosphere. The floor base in the aviary is linoleum. All the linoleum edges were sealed with clear silicone sealer as well as all the the joints and the wall to frame gaps to the top of the aviary. The idea was to keep all the spilled seed and droppings contained so no odd insects or contamination could start within the aviary. The linoleum is covered with sand, with grit sprinkled somewhat heavily on top of the sand. That's what your seeing in the pic. I change the sand and grit every 90 days (Depends on the population) or so. I rake it weekly to keep the droppings off of the surface. Here's a couple more pics...
Oh, Reservations with dinner are $30 a plate, one hour seating time maximum.

Thanks for the floor info. You really have a good system for the upkeep. Your birds are beautiful. On the last photo the two darker blue birds in the middle....are they Cordon Bleus? I don't know my birds very well.

And $30.00 for a plate.....that sounds reasonable but that better include a free bird to take home!

Just beautiful!!! I love the idea with the mural in the back. It must feel like sitting in a rainforest when you're having dinner.

Your idea with the sealed linoleum floor is great. I have only pond liner on top of the old floor, which is actually carpeting because it was a former sunroom, and our house is not the best built, so I have ants in there every summer that come in through the cracks in the wall.

Again thank you for the positive comments. This room was originally my formal dining room. I never used the room and I hated the decor and furniture. Over several months I developed a plan and then I completely gutted the room and started over. It took me 3 months from start to finish (I have a 6 day a week job), including finding the right table/chair setup that would fit into the "Look" that I wanted.

The second pic shows my Forbes pair in the middle with my Cordon Bleu/Blue Cap pair as bookends.

Yay i'd love to see an aviary of the month page. I love to see how people have decorated! I have an indoor fancy flight cage that I'm going to take pictures of over the weekend!

Here's my flight cage, I love it because it has sliding trays and takes me 7 minutes to clean. A local man makes these types of big, pretty cages here in Montreal (Les entreprises JTFL). It's nice seeing and hearing the birdies when it's so frigid outside!

And here's a shot of one of my new St Helena waxbills:
