Ive been thinkin the last while to build a large indoor cage for my fids.
Ive 2 Zebras 2 Owls and 2 Cherrys and id like to put them all together.

Was thinkin of making it 5 foot high 3 foot in length and 2 foot wide.
With just wire mesh on the front and the rest of it chip board.I reckon its big enough for them to stetch their wings.

Cleanin out 3 cages a day is one of my main reasons. And I will be constructing a large tray underneath. Has anybody ever used wood bark as a base? If enough is spread just a constant shovel and soak would be sufficient? Instead of changin papers everyday?

Five foot high you will have problems catching them for whatever reason.Better if it was longer...two foot depth is great.

That's the trouble with small flights...too big to reach the corners but not big enough to walk in.

Forget the bark...it gets slimy if wet and grows fungus which can be harmful.Wood shavings or hemp cuttings from a horse sundries suppliers are much easier/lighter and absorb droppings.I use the hemp in my covered aviary and only have to change it every couple of months.Which suits me as I like to leave breeding birds undisturbed as much as possible.Are you using plain chipboard or melamine coated?

Cant make it any longer as the parents have so kindly allocated me this Luxurios spacious Corner in one of the rooms of the house So thats why Im making it taller. Im not too worried about catching them Ive a net I can use if needs be.

And as far as I know il be using plain chipboard.

Sounds great only I would suggest using the melamine or similar coated boards, MUCH easier to wipe clean.

Hopefully my new cage will be built and all by the end of next week. Fairly excited

I keep a Bearded Dragon aswell as my finches and I use a dry bark and decided to test it out on the bottom of my triple breeder cage...so if it works like I hope I will use it in the Flight Cage next week. It looks so much nicer than the newspaper.

i got delayed in building my Cage as I started college and Hadnt the time for it as my timetable was a bit crazy but it has changed and is much handier now.

I scrapped the previous Idea and decided they would still need more room.
So I cleared out one of the Concreate sheds in my garden and will be adding an outdide area for them,works out way cheaper on materials and is much bigger and wont require as much cleanin as the other plan.Will be about 12 feet long 10 feet high and 3 foot wide. With the Shelter of the shed Im hoping it wont be too cold for them.....never was when I was younger and my dad had them,but he neve had owl finches this is my only worry,the guy in the petshop said once the wind and rain dont get them they will be fine?

I think some with a closed shed type will feed in the shed and close off the outside area in the bad weather. the wind and drafts are the worse for them.
You might cover the outside part with clear vinyl and supply some kind of heat I do that with two small aviary's and use the red heat bulbs done that for several years with very good results it got to about 28 for several days
