Introducing a new gould to the aviary

Post by MattMlt » Wed Sep 15, 2010 5:21 pm

Hi, today i went to a pet store and noticed that in a cage he had a Red Face wb yb male gouldian, and i really couldn't leave the store without taking this bird with me :D , so in the end i bought the bird, but now i would like some help on how to introduce this newcomer to the aviary, my aviary is 4feet tall, 4 feet long and 3 feet wide and currently has 2 pairs of gouldians in it, should i purchase a female and introduce them together, or should i purchase a female and put them somewhere else ?

This first thing that I would suggest is placing the bird in quarantine for a minimum of 3 weeks, the norm is 4, but I have introduced new birds at 3 weeks if I notice that everything appears above the norm.

After that it is your choice, introduce him with a new female if you do not want him to try and pair off with another. I always move a few things around in the aviary before introducing a new bird. Sometimes I will move the perches, but most times I have found that just moving around the feeders and waterers seems to do the trick. While the settled birds are trying to figure out why the feeders have been moved the new bird has his chance to make himself at home.

Congrats on your latest acquisition. =D>

Exactly  .

I am really happy to have him on my team :D . Today he couldn't stop singing and the other males answering back from the avairy, hope that everything works fine, and that from three pairs i would get at least one chick, considering that i'm a beginner i would be happy to have at least one.
