What wood should we use

Plans are finally underway to build my newer, bigger bird cage. We are not sure what sort of wood would be best to use. Any suggestions? Also, how should we treat any wood so that the wood is easy to clean and is durable, but also the safe for the birds?
TIA,
Jacqui

I'm bumping this up, it was overlooked before. I can't help you with advice, as I've only used purchased cages, but I would think untreated pine would be fine, with it sealed with one of those poly-something sealers, or you could use paint.

I think you can use any type lumber that don't have a strong odor like cedar,no pressure treated
The finish can be the clear type urethane or stain or paint I would just put the finish on and put the cage outside until all trace of odor is gone the sun helps ,I would not let it get wet.
Good luck with building take your time and think it out
