Cleaning Nests

Hi, I'm new to the group and have a quick question. I have two adorable male zebra finches. I have given them a nest that they have quickly filled with nesting material and absolutely love. My question is do I need to clean this out and if so how often? Thank you.

Hi Patricia, welcome to the forum.
Being as how it is 2 males, you could probably check the nest every once in a while, and if you notice it is poopy, remove the material and lt the rebuild.. At the very least it will keep them busy. The nest is not a necessit however, if you remove it they will learn very quickly to sleep on their perches, and will be happy without it..

Hello and welcome Patricia. I agree with Janine - finches do not need a nest to be happy but they sure look cute in them! Since there will be no chicks you can check the nest once a week or thereabouts and just remove the filling and let them start over. If the nest gets real dirty, you'll have to remove it and wash it.
