Safe and Unsafe Plants

Being as how I know that this question has been asked quite often, I figured that I would post this link.

It is from the AACC, and gives a list of all safe and potentially harmful plants and woods.
I hope that this will be of use to a lot of us, I know that I will be referring to it from hereon out.

Thanks! But I was surprised to see fig listed as toxic.
I have used branches from my fig trees along with fed
some figs to my finches. Hummm.......

I had always heard that fig branches were great to use and
I know for a fact that the birds are constantly eating my
figs outside.

It would be interesting to know if these lists are based on actual scientific fact or on the usual urban myths.
my birds have had cherry, ivy's, boxwood, fig and a couple of others from the potentially poisonous list and I havent lost any.
Then there are the birds that live in the other half's shadehouse, sharing it with plants such as rhubarb and elephant ears. again no deaths.
If only someone would come up with a list of safe plants which lists the reasons why they are considered safe or useful. for example seeding grasses.

I am assuming Mick that is why they say potentially harmful. I would depend on the individual bird and what part if any, of the plant that they are eating. This list was made mostly for parrot owners (as we know they will chew and eat the plants, whereas our fids don't usually eat them)

This is good info.
I want to get some house plants to put on and around my finch cages. I know I can use artificials, but would like to get at least one or two live ones. Does anyone have any recommendations for anything zebras like?

I just added an Evergreen tree to the aviary today, 4ft tall, the birds have been hanging in it all day. The cherry finches especially. They seem to love new additions to play with/on in the aviary.

I think these lists are made mostly for parrot owners. Parrots would chew on anything! I have to watch what I put in the aviary because of my budgies. I've never seen the finches chew on any plants. The only finches interested in the palms that I have in there are the lavender waxbills, they actually take strips of leaves that they pull off and then fly around with. (Never built a nest though... )
