Is Metal Halide Safe To use

Post by LeagueCityGoulds » Mon Nov 15, 2010 11:19 pm

Ive been trying to research on Differnt types of Lighting to use In my Future Avairy. I was previously big time in to Saltwater Coral Tanks so I have Some of my Metal Halide Lighting Fixtures Left. I am building a large Flight in my Enclosed Garage For Breeding and Winter. What Do Yall Think about the Halides?

The halides are great lights but you would have to incorporate a guard to keep the birds from burning themselves. Also with the heat they put out you would need adequate ventilation in the aviary. Halides are very costly to operate. I use them on the marine tank but would never consider using them in the aviary. On the tank the coast for a few hours is one thing but with birds you are looking at 12+ hour a day. That would run some $$$$$.
