Hi, it's about time i post some pictures of my finches and their outdoor home. As you can see, the aviary is an L shape...I have a wide, not deep backyard. It runs a total length of about 18 feet. I tried my best to build it around existing trees and bushes. I tarped part of it up for winter. Tell me what you think.
Oh you can also check it out on youtube under sbeakbird.

Thank you all. The one thing i regret not including in the design is a security door, because i got greedy for flight space.....and in return, i lost a beautiful yellow head white breast male gould!

Every time i need to go in there, i have sweaty palm.
@dfcauley
That picture was taken in august. They were from the second clutch of 4 eggs. I lost 4 more eggs (2 hatched) in November when we had that blizzard (26 below) due to parents not sitting tight. My wife discovered after returning from Thanksgiving....she was really sad. The two chicks are doing great now. I think rccbs also have awesome personalities, compare to parrot finches.

What a lovely set up and beautiful birds!
Is it not a possibility to add a safety door now? I have thanked my inclusion of them in my design so many times. In the least if it helps you try make a covering for the door, overlarge sheet or shade-netting or dark cloth, that you can hang over the door before entering. That may deter birds from slipping past as they are less likely to jump ship into a dark area.

Just take something like a shower curtain put on inside of aviary in front of door make it a little wider than door and about to floor fasten the top all the way across top when you go in push to the side with your arm and the birds will fly away.
I have my doors on larger cages all done like that with clear vinyl and works great .

Bill the clear vinyl is a great idea too! mmm may use that as a good wind break against drafts too...

Hello! It's a very nice aviary but it's also a good nest for mites and lice!
it's oriented to sunset or sunrise?

Monique and Bill, although it is hard to add the security door internally anyway now that my wife made use of the ground space for her greeneries and all, you both came up with a good idea for me. Next time I'll use a large cloth or an old shower curtain of some sorts in front of the entry door before opening it. Thanks guys.
