My little aviary/flight!

This is my little aviary/flight cage. It was made from the old bakery case from my favorite restaurant/coffee house, which I found in their parking lot with a "free" sign on it last March when they were doing some remodeling. As soon as I saw it I knew its purpose! My friend helped with the project which involved removing the shelves, priming, painting (Dutchboy Aura paint). Lots of sanding. We added OSB to the bottom which was cracked and added rolling castors. Ventilation holes were cut on the sides and top using a circular saw and covered with soffit vents. Small access doors on spring hinges were cut into the large sliding rear doors. We also added trim to the bottom (Which you'll notice I just broke a piece off when I hit the corner with the vacuum this morning...oops!). It has two large shelves underneath for storage.
I have been keeping my eyes open for another piece of furniture to re-purpose (though this project was quite a bit of work)! Of course I want more birds, but this one is pretty small!

What a clever way to recycle--wonderful!! The only thing I would add is some fake greenery.

Could you tell me more about the paint you mentioned using (Dutch Boy Aura) is it safer than other paint?

Yes, the Paint I used is called "Aura" by Benjamin Moore (oops, not Dutchboy). It was not cheap (I think I paid 24.99 for a quart!) It is supposed to be a safer "green" paint with no fumes and is safer for pets/animals. I also chose it because it is easy to clean.
