Changes in the aviary

We have begun seperating our aviary. Last week my husband put the window screen in . It was quite the challenge because they kept hitting it when they would try to fly back and forth. I almost took it out....

Finally we put two plants up on the counter and that helped alot. Now they are using the doorway to fly back and forth . I am sure once we put up the screen door it will start again.....

I also added another large silk tree to the other side so the birds would have a tree on each side. They LOVE their tree at night when they roost.
Hopefully this will be a good change so I can seperate my birds, but I am not sure of it yet.....I am as apprehensive as the birds are.

What a beautiful set-up. I hope everything works out and the birds acclimate to their newly renovated space arrangements. You have a s'wonderful husband. Claps for supportive spouses.

Your room is really nice...glad your birds are loving it!
Don't worry Donna...I am also hesitant when it comes to change and whether it is going to be ok with the finches.

Very nice and I'm sure you'll like being able to separate your fids once they get used to the new "blockage".

Well it has been a rough morning for them.... we have having lots of wind ouside and for some reason it seems to be spooking them.
They are flying back and forth a bit like crazy and several keep hitting the screen.
I didn't paint it. I am thinking to maybe take it down and paint it black. Any thoughts?????

Are we talking glass here? If we are...draw vertical lines, with a straight edge, at one inch spaces with a marker pen down the glass. After a time rub out every other one until the birds get used to there being a barrier there.

Awesome aviary

It's tough now but being able to seperate them will come in handy at times.
I have taken ribbon and laced it in and out of the welded wire in places and left a tail hanging. This seems to give the finches some depth perception and realize the wire is there.. I have also tie wrapped artificial greenery vine onto the wire.... this really helps, looks good and the finches can't steal it like they do the ribbon to make nest with
Also, add perches or a hanging feeder... these all create stopping points so that full throttle flight into the wire will stop. Here is a picture of a wall with some vines, feeder..... never had another bird miss the wire wall and crash
Sometimes just a few leaves attached is all it takes for them to slow down.

No... not glass. It is wire. I put the large plants there and I also had some purple ribbon hanging down on it. I will try the vines for a while. I don't really want to put a feeder there.....
Thanks for all the ideas. No one has been injured yet, but I cringe every time I hear the thump.....

Wow....Your aviary looks so nice with all the greenery and special touches. I hope the new partition will work well for you....once the birds (an you) get used to it.

Looking good Donna - now the door and you will be able to separate them as planned

I think the greenery on the wire would slow them down. Heck I'd be scared to stand in the door way now! End up with a beak in the face!

They should get used to it pretty soon, Donna. Then you will have two aviaries, both good-sized, so you can have a little more control over the birds.
