Hi,
I'm looking for some info on what is okay/best to use for cleaning and disinfecting my cages, feeders, waterers, perches, etc etc etc. I have seen that many of you use a bleach solution, but that's not possible for me, as even one whif of the stuff sends me into a dizzy headachy spell. I am not a big fan of chemicals, in general, and I'm thinking the birds aren't either.
I have been cleaning the food and waterers out daily with very hot water, but I'm thinking I should be using something else on a longer term basis. Once a week, once every couple of weeks? What do you all do?

How about vinegar mixed with water? Using vinegar is an excellent alternative to using cleaning products in store shelves. Definitely an alternative to bleach's foul smell.

Not to mention, you can even use it to clean your home and whatnot! It's considered eco-friendly as well, since cleaning products are actually quite detrimental to our environment.

I have been using the "Green Works" products by Clorox for over a year now. They are environmentally friendly, which is verrry important to me living in the country. (We have a well and septic system), and we can't forget the lake at the bottom of the hill, as well as all of the little creatures that live in the woods.

My grandmother has always used a solution of white vingegar and baking soda for cleaning. 1 cup vinegar, 1/4 cup baking soda, 1/2 gallon or so of water.

We've passed this down through 4 generations now.

I've used vinegar-water for my kitchen before at a dilution of about 3-1. What diultion is safe for the birds?
And I've used the green works in the bathroom. This is okay to use on bird stuff, as long as I rinse it well?

I have not had anything but healthy fids. (knock on wood) As with any other cleaning products wash and rinse.
