Something I've wanted to do since I had my new set up.I've got loads of room to extend down the garden, but I wanted to come towards the house so I could watch the birds from the kitchen.
Unlike the main flight I have left this bit open to the weather, the birds will love being able to preen in the rain and have the advantage of full sun.
I have a water feature to add to this with constant running water which will be nice. The floor is deep pebbles so any overflow or rain will soak away...something I couldn't do before with the main flight having a wooden floor.
I have wire mesh buried under the pebbles to stop mice getting in.

VERY nice!!!! I would love to be able to offer my birds some fresh sunshine. Best I can do is open the windows that have screens in them and let the sun shine in.

That is a beautiful extension Pooh

, wish I could do that here.

But of course we only have about 4 months out of the year when it would even be feasible

Candace....I've been idle all winter with the rubbish weather. The last couple of days have had me busy with this job,and lots to come.
Trouble is every bone in my body aches now...this morning I was walking like a zombie until I loosened up....

Wow....that is so nice PoohBear....you done good!
I noticed you have a paddlock on your aviary door....do you have to worry about neighbors stealing away your birdies during the night? I would hope not but one never knows what somebody might be thinking in terms of $$ signs when they look at your flock.

It's pretty secure here but you never know...It's not so much theft as possible kids up to mischief and opening doors.Or even a neighbour or workman looking for me and opening the door which is to the main flight.Better safe than sorry.

That looks great, Paul! Your birds will enjoy the sun, and you will enjoy watching them from the kitchen.

As far as the padlock, I agree, better safe than sorry. I woke up one morning to find one of my horses in my neighbor's back yard, with no idea how he got out of my pasture--fences all up, gates closed. I wondered if maybe some kids had opened the gate, let him out, then closed the gate again. Just to be safe, I put padlocks on all my gates and never had another escapee.
