Yes it is very possible to paint old cages. I believe any lead and low VOC paint is okay to use.

I'm pretty sure others have paint old cages or wire for aviaries; they'll be able to better advise you but I know it has been done.

Don't forget... PICTURES! =D>

I just checked out paint for cages too, and Liz is right on.
I also learned that you should paint them Black. The birds are MUCH easier to see through black bars than any other colour (and especially than white).

Sounds like a project in the making :)

could you use a spray paint in a can? I was wondering about that. I thought it would make painting wire pretty easy. Or maybe it would make more of a mess that it would be worth?

hi
they just need a slight rub down with sand paper if they are marked or rusty, when i had my old cages i hung the fronts on the side of the birdroom with 2 cup hooks and put a large peice of cardboard,or an old piece of hard board at the back so when they where sprayed the paint would go onto the board at the back and then when one side is dry turn it round and do the other...i always sprayed mine when i had my old birdroom because i had 24 cage fronts and painting them by hand took ages,of course if you have a staple gun and a plastic dust sheet you could staple that to the shed so you would not get over spray..or just lay the sheet of board/plastic on the floor and spray them !the black cage fronts against white cages always show the birds off better i think!

thanks for the spray can info ken! You are an invaluable wealth of information for us just starting out- blind as bats  when the wire gets cut out for the new cage I'll hang it and spray it black.
