Should I cover their cage at night?

Hi all-

I'm pretty new to finches, my first pair of male zebras were the odd couple (constantly bickering), so I had to return them. I have a pair of Spices now (Garunda [Hindi bird god] and Ajawan [black cumin seed]), what lovely little things...I find their song so much more pleasing!

ANYhoo, I'm wondering, should I cover their cage at night with a sheet or something? I've read conflicting reports on this. I'm not too early of a riser, so I'd feel bad to keep them covered until mid morning...

Any help appreciated...

My birdroom is attached to the house, but separate (a room off the back porch), so I don't have that problem. When I have birds to quarantine, though, they are either in my bedroom or my guest bedroom, where the computer is, so I cover them with a towel, just because I'm often up quite late at night.

I only cover my budgies... not any of my finches. I'm on an up pretty late/wake up semi late schedule also, so I wouldn't want to keep everyone covered all morning. Plus I don't really see it necessary.

I would not recommend covering your finches at night. Unless your finches are quite tame, this will probably frighten them and you could risk them causing injury to themselves.
