screen on avairy

I plan to build the panel-form aviary that is shown on this website and was thinking why not use something similar to window screens to prevent the seeds from spilling all over instead of pexiglass (it would be cheaper too). Then I thought, why not do that for the whole aviary? Is it harder to see through this that it would be on a screen with bigger sized holes? I'm thinking of just doing this.... what are your thoughts?

On a regular screen, like those used for windows, the holes are too small and the finches can get their nails stuck in them.

I bought a couple repti-breeze reptile type terrarium cages, and put them together for a 4x4x2 aviary in my livingroom. The mesh has a heavier guage wire than window screen, and the birds don't get their nails caught in the mesh at all. (you should keep them well trimmed anyways...) It has a large door on either end of the aviary, and a smaller door at ground level for changing litter. I've attached a picture for reference.

Thanks Chase! I researched cages quite a bit before I purchased this one...all the finch "aviaries" I could find in my area, were close to $600 each... and custom goes up from there. I'm not a huge fan of cages. I'm not much of a carpenter type, and these were only $149 each, so it made sense. Plus, it looks neat and tidy with clean black edges, and the birds LOVE the space! :D

Just used some plastic zip strips on the sides, top & bottom. (Those things are the best invention EVER!) Had to cut a couple tiny holes in the screen, but you can't even see where they are and I did them along the metal seams/edges to make them invisible. My brother is a welder, and is going to make a metal stand to make the aviary sit higher up off the ground. The cage comes with a plastic bottom in it, and is very easy to wipe clean. :)
